“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.” – John Lubbock
“If you can’t be in awe of Mother Nature, there’s something wrong with you.” – Alex Trebek
“Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.” ―
It is nice to Rest, especially in the heat of the summer. I often complain about the heat, bugs, rash causing plants, snakes, and humidity of the summer. I prefer the cooler seasons. Complaining can lead to negative thinking and actions.
What I do love about summer are the clouds. Pausing to take in the clouds of summer helps to transform my thinking and feeling. I always have a great sense of awe when I see the towering cumulonimbus clouds as they rise and expand in the afternoon sky. The summer clouds provide an added bonus to an already beautiful sunset.
My youngest son carries on the age old tradition of cloud-watching and naming the dragons, dogs, and other objects that we see in the summer cumulus clouds. It brings me so much joy to share these experiences with him.
Part of my practice is to look for God’s Presence in everything and everyone. This is sometimes hard. When I Pause and Rest, I see the beauty of the clouds, I feel the Presence of God. I feel peace, serenity, and the knowing that all is Good.
